For spooky season, we're reading Such Sharp Teeth by Rachel Harrison, a darkly comedic novel that puts a fresh spin on the classic werewolf story while exploring trauma, rage, vulnerability, relationships, and what it means to embrace the parts of ourselves we'd rather keep hidden.
Rory Morris isn't exactly thrilled to return to her hometown, but her pregnant twin sister needs her support. After a night out leads to a frightening encounter with a mysterious animal, Rory survives an attack only to realize that something about her has changed. She's stronger. Silver suddenly bothers her. And the moon seems to have a pull she can't ignore.
As Rory comes to terms with what she's becoming, she must decide whether the animal inside her is something to fear—or a transformation that might finally allow her to accept herself.
